A decoupling membrane, also known as an uncoupling membrane, is a type of material used in tile and stone installations to provide a separation layer between the substrate (such as a concrete or wooden subfloor) and the tile or stone surface. Its primary purpose is to decouple or uncouple the tile or stone from the underlying substrate.
